"Eat up Martha"

I met up with TD at the NRA convention this past weekend. He'd been hinting that he had a totally awesome piece of swag for me that would surely make a good subject for a Digital Fossils column. He wasn't kidding:

Bonus supergeek points for getting the reference in the post title...

It's from the Simpsons: Nelson wants to write the reminder "Beat up Martin", but Jimbo's Newton interprets it as "Eat Up Martha." Reference to the early handwriting recognition, which was (charitably) not ready for prime time.

By the time of the Newton 2100, the handwriting recognition was much improved; mine even recognized by chicken-scratching, which is something *I* can't do reliably!

You want obsure geek? I'll give you obscure geek. Look for it in next week's neanderpundit. This is truly fossily.

I have plenty of obscure geek, just nothing handheld.

Want a DEC Rainbow? :-D

If they haven't scrapped it, there's a Newton 110 in a drawer out at my remote office, last time I physically laid hands on it was 2005 though.

after coming across this post via a google search, i feel compelled to correct you: it's the lesser-known springfield bully dolph, not jimbo.

oh, and kearney tells him to leave the memo--not nelson.
