All those Redbox kiosks have been fossilized.

Further proof that if something has a CPU and a screen, someone's rigged it to play Doom...

The code that runs Redbox DVD rental machines has been dumped online, and, in the wake of the company’s bankruptcy, a community of tinkerers and reverse engineers are probing the operating system to learn how it works. Naturally, one of the first things people did was make one of the machines run Doom.

As has been detailed in several great articles elsewhere, the end of Redbox has been a clusterfuck, with pharmacies, grocery stores, and other retailers stuck with very large, heavy, abandoned DVD rental kiosks.

In case you think I'm kidding, here's a dude playing Doom on an old Kodak point & shoot camera.

The interface on the Kodak Easyshare V1073 is almost entirely handled through an array of somewhat cryptic menus on the touchscreen.

There are a total of six physical controls on the entire camera. On the top plate are a power button and the shutter release. On the rear of the camera, arranged vertically along the right edge beside the 3" touchscreen, are (from top to bottom) a little up-down lever to control the lens zoom as well as magnification during playback, the "play" button for image review, a cryptically-labeled "menu" button that takes you to the low-level stuff like carf formatting and setting the date and time, and a button marked [i] that will bring up any available help menus for the current activity on the touchscreen.

I used the Amazon gift card Bobbi gave me for my birthday to order a used Kodak Easyshare V1073.

Now I have a copy of each digicam I used before getting my first DSLR:

Now to go back and see if I can reshoot some things I shot back in the day, using the same gear, but do it better! The arrows are the same, but the Indian's gotten a bit better over the years, or at least I'd like to think so.

Alas, I won't be able to re-do the Lucky Gunner Blogger Shoot, or Knob Creek, or classes with Louis Awerbuck and Todd Green, or...
