I have a snow G3 slot-loader, which I got in late '02 - about six months before they were discontinued. I'd still use it, but sadly, the power management unit is fried. :(
Dunno about the iMacs there, the articulated model gets me going.
I *am* trying to figure out the disposition of a truckload of early macs and Quadras I'm sitting on including a 900 and 950 server... as well as a "hinge repaired" PB 520 mono, with the pricey external SCSI adapter included.
I've got a green-ish colored slot loader I'll give you, you just pay shipping. Some idjit installed Ubuntu 5.10 on it and it won't go past the Gnome login. Since I also have a apir of blue G3 500s with 512 MB of RAM and OS 10 I don't care enough to attempt to fix the older one. If ya want it give me an e-mail.
This one, of course: http://www.apple-history.com/?page=gallery&model=imac
ReplyDeleteThe Original has its charms, yes. But if you want something with a little more oomph, and all that, I'd go for the 500-600mhz ones with FireWire.
ReplyDeleteHaving only USB1 is just painful.
And then there's the deliciously weird Screen-on-a-stalk G4s.
Me, though, I think you should get a Cube.
It should probably be Bondi blue in color. (A slot-loader in Blueberry or Indigo would fit as well.)
ReplyDeleteAlthough the funky floral one was way cool, too.
The museum will definitely sport a Cube someday.
Yeah, I liked the floral one.
ReplyDeleteI've got a non-Bondi 600mhz slot-loader as a living-room web browser/music repeater, myself.
(Which is why I'm reminded that USB1.1 is painful...)
Best of all, it was free.
Not long ago geeks.com had G3 iMacs at giveaway prices. Their site seems to be down at the moment, unfortunately...

ReplyDeleteUm, I'm interested, but can't find your email!

ReplyDeleteAnd I don't know why I said it's a slot loader, it's the tray. Maybe I shouldn't do those kind of things when I haven't sleep for 50 some hours.
it's the rev.d with the 333mhs G3
ReplyDeleteWhat you need is an Osbourne
ReplyDeleteI know where one can be had, for a price.
